KETTERING YACHT CLUB STRATEGIC PLAN (Updated 2023)
The Kettering Yacht Club (KYC) is based in southern Tasmania and promotes sailing on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. It is a small but active club affiliated with Sailing Australia. It originally operated as the Channel Sailing Club and was incorporated as the KYC in 1993. It acquired and has operated a committee boat since 2009 and new club rooms in 2013. Today, it has a stable membership of about 170. The future of the club is promising with an ever increasing number of people and boats in the vicinity.

To organise activities and provide facilities that promote social yacht racing in local waters.

Objectives
Ensure the long-term success of the club by:
- Conducting sailing programs that focus on mixed fleet racing.
- Promoting safety on the water and provide instruction in the activities of yachting.
- Advancing an interest in sailing and introduce sailors to keel boat racing through facilitating crewing opportunities.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with other clubs and community organisations to broaden access to events for our members.
- Providing land-based facilities and activities that advance camaraderie and goodwill.
- Maintaining operational practices that ensure good governance, are environmentally and financially responsible.
KETTERING YACHT CLUB OPERATIONAL PLAN (Updated 2023)
- Conduct sailing programs that focus on mixed fleet racing
- Maintain the already extensive racing program
- Promote and operate the Pipe Opener as a DSS event and the Channel Challenge as KYC signature events
- Coordinate the sailing calendar with other sailing clubs
- Promote safety on the water and provide instruction in the activities of yachting
- Organise at least one rules night per annum
- Develop a program to have members qualify as Sailing Australia Officials in various capacities
- Facilitate access to established local training programs
- Advance sailing through facilitating crewing opportunities
- Implement an Australian Sailing recognised sail training programme
- Establish a register to match people wanting to crew with opportunities on club members’ boats
- Develop a coaching and mentoring program
- Hold an annual ‘Try Sailing’ day, including an invitation to students of local high schools
- Develop and maintain relationships with other clubs and community organisations
- Promote the relationship with other clubs , and promote the use of Sail Pass for CYCT and other boating clubs’ members to try racing
- Develop relationships with off-the-beach clubs to introduce sailors to keel boat racing
- Maintain accreditation with the Good Sports Program
- Select one, preferably local, charitable cause each year and fundraise or otherwise support
- Provide land-based facilities and activities that advance camaraderie and goodwill
- Complete the Change of Use Development Application and implement any required changes to facilities
- Review the available Liquor Licences for the most appropriate for our purposes and apply for same
- Develop a three year costed maintenance plan for the club house and associated facilities
- Develop a three year, costed maintenance and improvement plan for the Committee Boat, including establishing the service life.
- Ensure that the Working Bee remains a key part of the club’s activities, and that it is fun and rewarding to participate in for people of all backgrounds and abilities
- Maintain operational practices that ensure good governance, are environmentally and financially responsible
- Ensure important plans, policies, operating procedures and minutes are documented and accessible to club members
- Prepare and publish job descriptions for all KYC Office Holders and provide an induction process for office holders
- Develop and approve an annual budget before the beginning of the financial year
- Review and ‘optimise’ club insurances and submit to the Committee annually for formal approval
- Carry out an annual assessment of the operational plan and a biennial assessment of the strategic plan.
- Develop a rolling three year Financial Plan factoring in the significant projects identified in this Operational Plan.
